Prayer Challenge
Prayer Topics for a Spiritual Breakthrough in Finland
1. In prayer, we ask for forgiveness for our sins and the Finnish people’s sins against God and each other.
2. We pray for a spiritual breakthrough in order that God would break the pride and hardness of our hearts, and as a result, we would begin to respect, love and appreciate all the followers of Jesus in Finland.
3. We pray for a spiritual breakthrough so that a strong prayer and fasting movement will be established in Finland, and focused and unwavering intercession would go on even after this challenge is over.
4. Young adults under the age of 30 are particularly interested in Jesus and many of them believe that Jesus is the Son of God. We pray for a similar change among all age groups and different nationalities in Finland.
5. We pray for a spiritual breakthrough so that all obstacles to the proclamation of the gospel will be removed and the gospel can spread freely to nurseries, schools, vocational schools, colleges, prisons and nursing homes all over Finland.
6. We pray that all Christians from different denominations and congregations would stand out together by respecting each other, to carry out the Great Commission authorized by Jesus Christ.
7. We pray for a spiritual breakthrough in Parliament, the Cabinet, and the administration of municipalities and regions, so that the number of Christians who live and profess their faith will increase at all levels of government.
8. We pray for a spiritual breakthrough in the mainstream media and social media, so that the gospel and Jesus Christ will become a topic of discussion for the nation on a wide range of platforms.
Tips for fasting
Think about and pray about what would be the right target time for your fast, or alternatively, you can start fasting in faith and think later about when you will break it. Some people fast for 18 hours, others for a day and others even more. Ask God to give you His grace and strength so that you don’t fast in your own power but in His strength.
When you start fasting, give time for prayer at the same time. Through fasting, your whole body turns to God. You can pray in silence and solitude as well as in congregation with others or while you go about your daily activities. The most important thing is that you direct your fast to God and not advertise about it to others/i.e. on social media (see the teaching of Jesus in Matthew 6:16-18). God has promised to reward you when you fast to Him in secret out of the right motives.
The essence of a regular water/juice fast is to abstain from solid food. You can also fast for a limited time without liquids. Talk to your doctor before starting a fast if you have a history of chronic illness or are on regular medication. In this way, you will find the best way for you and your own health in fasting for God.
You can enjoy water, juice mixed with water, tea with honey or warm milk while fasting. When consuming fluids, you can estimate how much energy you want to store in your body through them during fasting. A small amount of energy helps to take care of everyday things and work, and at the same time, memory works better. In Daniel’s fast (for him and his friends, it lasted 21 days, but it can also last for a shorter period), only vegetables are eaten.
Find a way of fasting that works for you. In principle, there is no need to be afraid of fasting. Over time, your body will also start to get used to being without solid food, even if you feel that your energy level is lower than in a normal state.
In most cases, you can also fast for at least short periods, even if you have health challenges. There is a lot of discussion about the health effects of fasting. We encourage you to make fasting a part of your service to God with the help of God’s grace and you will see what God is doing in your life (Matthew 6:17-18).
